How to play Canuckle today
The goal is simple. Find the hidden five letter word in six tries or fewer. Type any real five letter word and press Enter. The tiles then change colour to show how close you were.
- Red means the letter is in the word and in the right spot.
- Yellow means the letter is in the word but belongs somewhere else.
- Grey means the letter is not in the word at all.
The keyboard keeps track for you, so letters you have ruled out turn grey there too. Your guesses do not have to be Canadian. Only the answer is. That means you can use any common English word to test letters, then switch to Canadian words once you know a few.

Why the tiles are red
If you have played Wordle, the only thing that looks strange at first is the colour. Wordle marks a correct letter in green. Canuckle uses red, the colour of the maple leaf on the flag. Your shared result grid uses red squares too, so friends can tell at a glance which game you played.
What makes Canuckle Canadian
Every answer has a link to Canada. Some days it is a place, like BANFF. Some days it is wildlife, like GOOSE or LOONS. Other days it is a piece of everyday life here: TOQUE, CANOE, MAPLE, or CANAL, as in the Rideau. The link is not always obvious. A word can be there because of a Canadian invention, a sports moment or a bit of history, and the fun fact after the game explains why it made the list.
That is the real difference from Wordle. A general word game tests your vocabulary. Canuckle also tests what you know about the country, so it pays to think about Canadian places, animals, food, sports and slang when you are down to your last few guesses. Tips for a better score
Open with common letters
Your first guess should cover letters that turn up often in five letter words: vowels like A, E and O, plus consonants such as R, S, T, N and L. Words like STARE, ROAST or TRAIL give you a lot of information in one row. Avoid rare letters like Q, X and Z early on.
Use guess two to test new letters
If your first row comes back mostly grey, do not try to fit the answer yet. Play a second word with five fresh letters. Two rows that cover ten different letters usually leave only a handful of possible words.
Think Canadian once the shape appears
Once you have two or three letters placed, run through Canadian categories. With an O, an O and an S showing, MOOSE should come to mind before LOOSE. With a U and an E near the end, TOQUE is worth a look.
Watch for repeated letters
A letter can appear twice. If you are stuck on guess four and nothing fits, try a word with a double letter, like GOOSE or LOONS.
Try hard mode when you want a challenge
In the settings you can switch on hard mode, which makes you reuse every letter you have already found. Turn it on before your first guess. The same menu has a dark theme and a high contrast option that swaps red and yellow for colours that are easier to tell apart.

Your games played, win rate, current streak and guess distribution are saved in your browser on this device. There is nothing to sign up for. Clearing your browser data or switching to another phone or computer starts the count again, so play on the same device if you care about the streak.
When you finish, press Share to copy your result grid. It shows your coloured squares and the number of guesses, without giving away the word, so it is safe to post in a group chat.
