This world flags quiz shows you a flag and asks which country it belongs to, with 195 flags in the pool and a region filter so you can study one continent at a time. Pick from four answers or type the name yourself, and see how long a streak you can build.

How to play
- Choose Multiple choice or Type it. Multiple choice is the better way to learn new flags. Typing is the real test.
- Pick a region: all regions, Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe or Oceania.
- Pick how many flags you want in the round: 10, 25, 50 or all of them.
- Answer, then press Next flag. On a keyboard you can press 1 to 4 to choose an answer and Enter to move on.
In multiple choice, the wrong answers are often flags that really do look alike, such as Chad and Romania or Indonesia and Monaco, so you cannot get by on colours alone. In typing mode you get two tries per flag, accents are optional, and familiar names are accepted: Ivory Coast for Côte d'Ivoire, Burma for Myanmar, East Timor for Timor-Leste, Turkey for Türkiye. For the two Congos and the two Koreas you need the full name.
At the end of each round you see your score, your best streak and a gallery of every flag you missed, with the answer you gave. One button replays just the missed flags, which is the quickest way to learn them.
Which flags are included
The quiz uses the 193 member states of the United Nations plus its two observer states, Palestine and Vatican City. Territories such as Greenland, Puerto Rico and Hong Kong are not included. Regions follow common usage, so Russia is in Europe, Türkiye and the Caucasus countries are in Asia, and Cyprus is in Europe.
How to tell look-alike flags apart
| Flags | The difference |
|---|---|
| Chad and Romania | Almost identical blue, yellow and red stripes, so even experts mix them up. Use context: in an Africa round it is Chad, in a Europe round it is Romania. |
| Indonesia and Monaco | Same red over white design. Monaco's flag is squarer. Poland is the same idea flipped, white over red. |
| Ireland and Côte d'Ivoire | Ireland reads green, white, orange from the flagpole side. Côte d'Ivoire is the reverse: orange, white, green. |
| Australia and New Zealand | Both are blue with the Union Jack in the corner. Australia's stars are white and there is a large star under the Union Jack. New Zealand has four red stars with white borders. |
| Netherlands and Luxembourg | Both red, white and blue in horizontal bands. Luxembourg uses a lighter, sky blue. |
| Slovakia, Slovenia and Russia | All white, blue and red. Russia has no emblem. Slovakia's shield is larger and sits toward the flagpole. Slovenia's smaller shield sits in the top left corner, with three gold stars. |
| Norway, Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland | The Nordic cross family. Denmark is red with a white cross. Norway adds a blue cross inside the white one. Iceland is Norway's colours swapped, blue with a red cross. Sweden is yellow on blue, and Finland is blue on white. |
Tips that make flags stick
- Learn by region. Use the region filter and do 10-flag rounds. Oceania has only 14 flags, so it is a quick win.
- Notice the odd shapes. Nepal's flag is the only national flag that is not a rectangle. Switzerland and Vatican City are the two square ones.
- Look for one symbol, not the whole flag. Canada has the maple leaf, Lebanon a cedar tree, Cyprus a map of the island, Kenya a shield with two spears. One clear detail is enough to remember.
- Group the colour families. Many flags in the Caribbean, in Central America and across Africa share colour schemes. Learning the families first, then the one detail that splits each family, saves a lot of guessing.
- Replay your misses. The missed-flags button at the end exists for exactly this. Two or three replays usually clear the list.
